Hi and welcome to my classroom! I am so pleased to have this opportunity to help teach your child in my classroom. So you will know a little about me, I was raised here in Southern Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma State University and Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where I received my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I began teaching at Dickson Public Schools in January of 2002 with second grade, however I have been teaching first grade for the past seven years. Did I mention I love teaching first grade! While I have high expectations for each of my students and myself, I also believe learning is fun in my classroom. My lesson plans are centered around the Oklahoma P.A.S.S. objectives for first grade and all of our first grade teachers at Dickson Lower Elementary work together as a team to accomplish meeting the PASS objectives for every first grader, in order to prepare each of our students for second grade. The arts are integrated into my Reading class, using poems, literature, creative writing, and music. Math manipulatives are used for my students to have a hands-on approach to math skills. A new learning activity this year is the "Share Sack", which lets every child share and contribute their life experiences with the class, with two of my students chosen to lead the class each week. It is truly an honor and blessing to be your child's teacher. Please feel free to contact me before school, after school, or during my planning time if you have any questions about your child's progress throughout this school year.
